So it finally happened. A mating between the two of my beloved saluki-babes. Was it planned??????????? Definitely NOT!!!
I had no intention of breeding any of my salukis, until probably 2009 or 2010, to allow them to mature further, and get things sorted out.
We were very careful with Balqes last December when she was on heat. We realised she was keen on the boys (precisely my older Santana) after 2 weeks of blood spotting.
It was Yasmeen's turned and like Balqes we were very very careful, and probably I was kind of over-confident about nothing would happen, LOL.............................*sigh*. Like Balqes, she was eager after 2 weeks too.
As per normal, after the routine evening walk, I tied them to change to my shorts, BUT I was so careless, I could have tied Yasmeen away from the group, but it had slipped off from my mind.
So while changing to shorts, as I wanted to wash their legs, I could hear moaning sounds, LOL!!!! And there you go, when I came down, Yasmeen and Santana were in a tie.
I could have given her the Mesalin (Estradiol Benzoate) jab, on the third day. I could do that, but then decided that it was not their fault, guess it was meant to be. So she mated on 29th of March 2008. Expected due day should be May 30th to 1st June.
I knew she was pregnant, no doubt about that. She started growing bigger and bigger. Crude as I may be, she still followed me jogging up to the 60th day. That evening she was grumpy & bitchy towards the other salukis, and I stayed all nite with her in the room we have set up for the delivery. She was restless but no straining at all. I was so stoned when I went jogging that morning, but of course I did not take her. She had her breakie & did her poo-poo & wee-wee, before I took the rest of the pack for their longer jog since it was Wednesday, the day I would normally have them washed.
When I got back, Bacthiar was calling me out and said it's coming:
So finally she delivered on the 28th of May. 1st pup at 0945 hours, a particolor black little gal, followed my Santana junior at 1015 hours. The intervals were from 20 minutes to more than two hours, and finally the last pup at 1845 hours, all in all 6+1, meaning 6 boys & 1 gal.
Yasmeen is a good mom, and we had the pups dew claws removed on the 1st of June, all pups weighing at 800g, and their weights were increasing by the day. And I realised the youngest which is the biggest, is a GOLD, and there you go, me wanting to name it Al-Feredeau. Yes true enough, we lost Al-deau due to a car accident on the 29th May 2007, and a year later, on the 28th May 2008, a little goldie was born.
So this is my 1st or shall I say, Alif (the first alphabet in the Arabic script) litter.
